No oil, Very low fat, low calorie gravy alternative.  It's healthy enough to use whenever you have urge.  Preparation and cooking time is approximately 15 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 3 tablespoons tamari
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage

Instructions:

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat 1/4 cup of vegetable broth.  Gently sweat the chopped onion with salt and pepper until translucent, approximately 4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for one more minute.

With a wooden spoon, mix the flour into the onion and garlic and form a smooth paste; approximately 1 minute.  Slowly add the remaining 2 cups of vegetable broth in three equal installments.  Each 1/3 should be fully incorporated and smooth before adding the next. After all the broth is incorporated, add the nutritional yeast, sage and tamari.  Stir while bringing the gravy to a gentle boil.  Lower heat and simmer, while stirring for 5 to 6 minutes or until thickened.
